In the Brightest Day.
Washington, D.C.

Sean left his Mass. Ave. office building at 1:00 as he did each day. His job payed well enough that he only had to work part-time hours, for which he was grateful. The mid-day sun beat down as he made his way down 17th St. toward the Farragut West Metro station.

He caught his reflection in a window as walked. He wore a beige button-down shirt with a high mandarin collar. Green stripes adorned it, matching the green of his khakis. Deep emerald Doc Martens covered his feet. A smaller spot of green could be seen on the ring finger of his right hand. It was the Green Lantern ring that had been marketed by D.C. Comics a few months earlier. A lot of GL fans were disappointed with it. It wasn't the exact Silver Age repro they had originally been promised and it had some silver in it instead of being all green. Sean didn't care much about that. It was still a GL ring and he was happy to have it.

As he approached Farragut Park he observed the bicycle messengers, students, and business people who had congregated there. His heart skipped a beat as he caught a flash of red curls moving through the park. He would miss his train, but he had to see. He moved quickly through the park looking for the girl but she had disappeared, lost in the rush-hour throng of humanity. Sean let out a sigh and walked slowly to the Metro Station. After a moment he picked up his pace, thinking of the students that would be waiting for him when he got home. They met at his house twice a week, eager to learn the various forms of self defense that Sean taught them.
