Medieval Stuff |
This page is going to be for all of my Medieval stuff. I have participated in SCA events for many years although I never actually "joined" the organization. SCA fighting has never really been my cup of tea. It's not the physical contact that bothers me (witness my willingness to train in Filipino Martial Arts) but rather, the politics. SCA politics drives me batty. I'll give you an example... years ago I was introduced to the SCA by a friend. He was supposed to train me to be a fighter, which he never did. We went to a Storvick Baronial tournament and the next thing I knew... he dressed me up in armor... handed me a stick and shield and said, "Go qualify". Of course I got my butt kicked and failed to qualify. I asked one of the knights what I could do to get some training and he offered very little in the way a suggestions. Life got wierd for a while and I didn't go to any SCA events for years. Then I started working for Potomac Leather Company. The owner was to be "Man - at - Arms" to a knight. I started going to fighting practice with him. This is how things went down... The SCA guys would grab somebody and say, "Here's some newbies... some 'em something.". So he'd show us a few things and then take off... The next guy would show us things that completely contradictied what the previous persion had said. Now, I understand that different people have different styles... but that's all very confusing to a newbie who's trying to learn. After a while I got frustraited and stopped going. A few years later... another friend from the SCA tells me that stories are being told about me. It seems that I showed up at a tourney, knowing nothing and expected to qualify. When I failed to do so, I threw a tantrum and caused a scene. Then I dissapeared for a while and showed up again, acting like I already knew everything and didn't want any training. This is what the SCA "Nobles" had to say about me. Screw 'em... just because I expressed opinions and wouldn't kiss anyone's ass, this is what I get. I'm having much more fun in Darkon, anyhow. Anyhow... here's some pictures my swords, daggers and armor. This is devided into two sections.... Things I already own
My broadsword. Got it a Pennsic some years back. Named it "Misty" after a girl I met there.
The Muscle Curaiss is from The Armour Store
And the leather Van Braces are from Maspien Armory
Roman greaves from Museum Replicas
Viking Helm from Museum Replicas.
Celtic style, center grip shield from Museum Replicas... have to find somebody who can do a decent paint job on it.
Shell hilted main gauche from Windlass Steelcrafts
Rapier from Windlass Steelcrafts. Finally got the correct pic for this.
this is the Celtic sword I've bought from Kris Cutlery.
Cossack Kindjal from Museum Replicas
A sort of fantasy mottif skull and crossbones sword... I also have a matching dagger... from Atlanta Cutlery.. I also got a pretty cool Chakram from them... but don't have a picture of it yet. Things That I want and will own soon Due to circumstances beyond my control, this section is temporarily offline (i.e. Kelpie is so broke it isn't even funny... so kelpie won't be buying *anything* for a while.) I've got several other swords and medieval weapons along with some period
garb but I have to take pictures and get them scanned.
